Mountain Huts close to Alpendorf Dachstein West
Loseggalm – Langfeldhütte
A whole world of different cheeses. Organic cheese from Jersey cows. Soft cheese, semi-soft cheese, cream cheese. And then those potted cheese specialties … mmmmh! Some of those Jersey cows even get to spend a summer holiday of their own at the Loseggalm. The fact that these animals grazing below the Bischofsmütze have it good, is something you can clearly taste. The cheese from the Fürstenhof, to which it belongs, is outstanding. Confirmed by nine gold, silver and bronze medals won in Austrian cheese competitions. Our tip: At the farm shop of the Fürstenhof in Kuchl, ca. 30 minutes from Alpendorf Dachstein West, you will be able to buy a full selection of cheese specialties and many other good things from cows – yogurts, milk creams and chocolate. For a delicious mealtime at your comfy holiday home in the Salzburger Tennengau region or as a souvenir of your holiday at ALPS. Particularly interesting during these days of home office and quarantine: Maria Rettenbacher’s blog “Kuhles aus Milch”, with recipes for dairy products you can make in your own kitchen.
Hike / bike tour to the Loseggalm: The Loseggalm can be reached directly from your holiday home in ca. 1.5 hours or from the Mauerreith car park (ca. 10-minute drive from your homebase). A broad forestry lane will then lead you to your destination in about one hour – where you will be greeted by a delicious well-earned Brettljause. Located directly above the 400-year-old Langfeldhütte is a special place of natural power with a bench for you to sit.
Mahdalm – Alpine Summer Hut of the Year 2014
Your memory of the views from this place in the Salzburger Tennengau will stick with you long after your summer holiday is over! The Mahdalm is “enthroned” directly below the Mahdriedl (elev. 1650 m). The views extend from Annaberg-Lungötz, across the Tennengebirge, to the Hochkönig in Pinzgau and the Hoher Sonnblick in Raurisertal. And how could we forget the Bischofsmütze which, to be quite honest, is impossible to overlook. In 2014, the Mahdalm at the foot of the Gosaukamm, was crowned Alpine Summer Hut of the Year. Hardly surprising when you factor in the friendly hosts, marvelous scenery and delectable cheese dumplings.
Hike / bike tour to the Mahdalm: Same as the Loseggalm, from your house in Alpendorf Dachstein West or the Mauerreith car park. From the Mahdalm, you are just 15 minutes from the Loseggalm.
Stuhlalm
You might almost feel that, in the area surrounding the Bischofsmütze, there is one amazing mountain hut right after another: The Stuhlalm was chosen “Hut of the Month” in 2019 by ALPIN-Magazin and “Favorite Hut of the Month” in BERGSTEIGER. And since we happen to be talking about distinctions: Marcel Hirscher, one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time and an Annaberg native, for all intents and purposes spent his childhood at the Stuhlalm. For 14 years, his parents were leaseholders of this rustic hut in Salzburger Land.
Hike to the Stuhlalm: directly from your holiday home in Alpendorf Dachstein West. Or from the Pommer car park (4 minutes’ drive, 2 km), taking roughly 1 ½ hours to reach the Stuhlalm. The path is very suitable for families with children.
Theodor Körner Hütte
Located roughly 10 minutes from the Stuhlalm is the Theodor Körner Hütte, purportedly the mountain hut with the most hours of sunshine per day in all of Salzburger Land. From its popular sun terrace, the view of the Bischofsmütze is unbeatable. The hike to the Theodor Körner Hütte, named after a famous German writer, is also doable for families.
Hike to the Theodor Körner Hütte: same starting point as for the Stuhlalm – from your home in Alpendorf Dachstein West or from the Pommer car park. Your hike along the path through a coniferous forest will take around 90 minutes.
